Pride

Pride

We each had our way to cope with the pain, countless bottles I poured down the drain. I sat back and watched you decay, I sat back and watched you waste away. I barely recognized the person looking back at me. You had a look in your eyes like you had been defeated. Thinking you'd rather die than get the help you needed. Ready to give up because you were set in your ways, stubborn and thick headed, you'd never change. Held captive by your addiction, you were forced to accept the decisions you made. You left with so much regret, remorse and dismay. I wish you had heard my voice as I sat beside you that day. Wishing for a miracle but it was too late. I watched the breath leave your lungs taking your soul with it like they hated you. And maybe in some ways, I did too.
